A picturesque venue for this Malibu elopement

Malibu is, by nature, one of those places that takes your breath away. From the rocky cliffs to the rolling waves, this region of California earns it’s reputation as one of the most desired areas of LA. I had this in mind, but nothing could have prepared me for the beauty that Malibu Rocky Oaks offered when we pulled up to the long, winding drive to the top of a mountain for Donny Zavala‘s workshop. Erin and Chris’ design was initially inspired by the venue itself – modern, elegant, and ‘take your breath away’ type of style by none other than Joy Proctor. We marveled at the infinity pool, the helipad, and the magical mist that seemed to settled around the tops of the nearby mountains, making you feel like you were floating in a cloud.
We began their session indoors. Erin’s Musat Official gown was both unexpected with the sheer panel in the front and classic with the almost Grecian-like pleating and simple silhouette. Chris looked handsome as ever in his tuxedo by Mr. Tuxedo. The two of them were naturally beautiful people; I particularly loved the way makeup artist Nyrie Beauty added just a touch of glow to highlight Erin’s dewy skin.
A California breeze and the magic of a helipad
I’ve never worked with a helipad on top of a mountain before… how many people can actually say they have? When we moved outside, we found the most incredible views of the mountains and setting sun. There was a brisk breeze that poor Erin endured (like a champ!) but the resulting images were totally worth it. The simple tablescape designed by Joy was actually a surprise – she “threw this together” at the last minute, but the simplicity and organic nature felt meant to be with Erin and Chris. The soft greens and ivory tones paired flawlessly with their modern look.
As we made our way down to the helipad, these two just had fun. Good, old-fashioned fun. They danced around as the sun was draping that famous California golden hour glow on them and I couldn’t help but feel like it was a dream… the most perfect Malibu elopement ever.
